I love to experiment with photographic film as a medium. Manipulating film before exposure adds a little magic – an uncontrollable chaos that remains a secret until development.
These pictures are from films that I have souped in a mixture of window cleaner and my own blood.
How could I possibly get a closer connection to my work, if not through my own blood?
The window cleaner keeps the blood from becoming sticky in the drying process.
The blood sticks to the emulsion of the film, a veil closing in the subjects that I capture.
Sometimes the frames become completely unrecognizable, leaving the viewer with a mystery.
